The adult female black widow has shiny round abdomen, and although difficult to spot, has a characteristic red hourglass figure on the underside of the abdomen.

The Brown Widow Spider, more recently introduced to the county, continues to expand its local population. They are tan/brown in color, and also have the characteristic hourglass coloration on its underside, although with the Brown Widows it is more of an orange color than red.
